The Shortest Day: A Turning Point in Light and Mood
Today, December 21, marks the shortest day of the year: the winter solstice.
In the past, Jaap always dreaded this day. Heading out in the dark, coming home in the dark, weighed down by the lack of daylight.
And he was far from alone—2 to 8 percent of people in the Netherlands experience severe depressive symptoms every winter, triggered by the so-called “winter blues.”
Last year, Jaap decided to take action. Light therapy helped, but the real transformation came with the program “Resilience in Your Own Hands.”
He learned how his brain and nervous system function, and discovered practical brain hacks to enhance his resilience.
This year, he feels remarkably lighter, less downcast, and sharper in mind.
Today, exactly one year later, he looks to the future with more light—and more resilience.
